Common questions

How do I add an account?

Click Add account and choose your kind of account. For most mail services, your email address and password are enough: SolveInbox finds the server settings itself.

My mail is not arriving. What do I do?

Check that your Mac is online, then open Settings, Accounts and click Sync now. If an account says Sign in again, click it and sign in.

My mail provider asks for an app-specific password. What do I do?

Make one in your mail provider’s account settings, then add your address in SolveInbox with that password. SolveInbox keeps it in your Mac’s Keychain.

Which calendars and contacts work?

Any that use CalDAV and CardDAV, the open standards most mail providers and self-hosted servers use. SolveInbox changes an event in place, so repeats, reminders and attendees are kept when you move one meeting.

Why are some pictures in a mail hidden?

Pictures from the web are blocked by default, because they can tell the sender when and where you opened the mail.

Will SolveInbox delete mail on my server?

Only when you delete it. Flags, deletions and moves are kept in step with your server both ways, so a mail you delete in SolveInbox is deleted on the server too.

Where is my mail kept?

On your Mac and on your mail server. To keep a folder only on your Mac, use Move to This Mac. To save a folder as a file, use Export as .mbox.

Can I get deleted mail back?

Delete moves mail to Trash, on your Mac and on your server, and Undo brings it back. Delete forever, from Trash, asks first and cannot be undone.

How do I set a holiday reply?

Open Settings, Mail, Holiday reply. It is set on your mail account itself, so it keeps answering while your Mac is off. If your mail server does not allow it, SolveInbox says so.

How do I make SolveInbox my default mail app?

Open Settings, Mail and choose Make SolveInbox the default. Your Mac asks you to confirm.

Does SolveInbox work offline?

Yes, for reading. Your mail is kept on your Mac, so you can read it without a connection.

Which Macs does SolveInbox run on?

Macs with Apple silicon or Intel, running macOS 13 Ventura or later.

Purchases and refunds

SolveInbox is sold through the Mac App Store, so Apple handles payments and refunds. To ask for a refund, use Apple's Report a Problem page.
