Common questions
Will SolveText change my Markdown files?
Only where you edit them. SolveText reads and saves files exactly as they are, so opening and saving a file you have not changed leaves it byte for byte the same. It never writes HTML into your files.
How do I get back an earlier version?
Each save that changes a file keeps the version before it. Use Show Previous Versions in Finder to see them. They are kept in SolveText’s own folder, never beside your documents, up to 5 GB in all, with the oldest dropped first.
Why are some pictures in my note hidden?
Pictures stored on the web are not loaded until you click Show web pictures on that note, so no website learns you opened it. Pictures saved on your Mac show straight away.
Which files can I import?
Documents (.docx), spreadsheets (.xlsx, .xls and .ods), presentations (.pptx) and PDF. Scanned PDF pages are read with the Mac’s own text recognition. The original file is never changed.
Does SolveText work with my existing notes folder?
Yes. SolveText shows front matter, callouts and wiki links, and finds a wiki link’s note anywhere in that folder. It never reads or changes another app’s settings kept there.
Will SolveText become my default Markdown app?
Not unless you choose it. SolveText offers to open .md files but never makes itself the default.
Which Macs does SolveText run on?
Macs with Apple silicon or Intel, running macOS 13 Ventura or later.
Purchases and refunds
SolveText is sold through the Mac App Store, so Apple handles payments and refunds. To ask for a refund, use Apple's Report a Problem page.
