Who we are
SolvePhotos is made by Solverise, 27 Felixstowe Close, Reading, RG6 3UF. Solverise is responsible for the information described here. You can reach us at kavita@solverise.co.
What we collect
Nothing. SolvePhotos has no account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no crash reporting and no update check. We never receive your photos, your edits or anything about you.
Your photos
SolvePhotos reads the photos in the folders you add and never changes the originals. Your edits, ratings, keywords and other library data are stored in your SolvePhotos library on your Mac. Copies of photos are made only when you import with “copy into library”, into that library. Sidecar files beside your photos are written only if you turn that on.
People and faces
SolvePhotos can find the faces in your photos so you can name people and browse by person. Face detection runs on your Mac. Face recognition, which matches faces to the people you have named, is off until you switch it on, and it also runs on your Mac. Face boxes, the names you give and the recognition data are stored in your library on your Mac, are never uploaded, and are deleted when you delete the library. You can switch recognition off at any time in Settings.
Location
SolvePhotos never uses your Mac’s location. “Location” in SolvePhotos means the GPS position already stored inside a photo by the camera or phone. Fill Location from GPS turns those positions into place names on your Mac, using a place-name table you download once; your positions are never sent anywhere. If you click Show on map, the photo’s position opens in a map website in your own web browser; that website then receives the position, under its own privacy policy.
Downloads you start
SolvePhotos connects to the internet only when you first ask it to download something. There are two downloads: the face recognition model (when you switch on face recognition) and the place names. Each download asks for a file and sends nothing about you or your photos. The face model is checked against a fixed fingerprint (SHA-256) before SolvePhotos uses it, so only the exact file expected is kept; the place names are a public list of places, read only as text. The depth model and the AI masks come built into SolvePhotos, so they need no download and no account.
Also worth knowing
- Memory cards and cameras you connect are read only to offer an import of their photos.
- SolvePhotos keeps logs about how the app is running, on your Mac. They are never sent anywhere.
- SolvePhotos does not use your Mac’s camera, microphone or contacts.
- Links in SolvePhotos’s About and Help open web pages in your own browser, only when you click them.
Your Mac’s photo library
If you tick “Add to System Photo Library” when exporting, SolvePhotos asks for permission to add the exported files to your Mac’s photo library. It only adds; it never reads your photo library.
If you write to us
If you email us for help, we use your message only to answer you. We keep support emails for as long as we need them to help you, and delete them two years after the last message.
Purchases
Apple processes purchases made through the Mac App Store. Solverise does not receive your payment details. Apple's handling of your information is described in Apple's privacy policy.
Your rights
Because SolvePhotos sends us nothing, the only personal information we hold is what you send us by email. You can ask us to show you, correct or delete it by writing to kavita@solverise.co. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
SolvePhotos collects nothing from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
